Calgary's permanent residential school memorial won't be erected until 2026, at the earliest

But while the design competition is now underway, the memorial itself is likely still a few years away from being unveiled publicly, city councillors heard Monday, during the city’s first meeting that focused solely on Indigenous-themed topics.
