ADvTech acquires Ethiopian international school for R135m
This acquisition has added five schools to the group’s international portfolio.

The move bolsters the group’s position as a private education provider across the continent, adding five schools and over 3 000 students to its international portfolio.
The acquisition, funded internally, aligns with ADvTech’s mission to deliver top-tier private education and support the growing demand for schooling in Ethiopia’s rapidly urbanising capital. With a population of 5.5 million, Addis Ababa is the fifth fastest-growing city in Africa and one of the safest urban areas on the continent, the group noted.

It further noted that Ethiopia, the second-most populous nation in Africa, has a young demographic, with 70% of its population under 25.

“We are delighted to welcome Flipper International School to the ADvTECH Group as we expand our presence across Africa and further cement our status as the leaders in teaching and learning on the continent,” said ADvTech CEO Geoff Whyte.
Founded in 1998, Flipper International School operates across five campuses in Beklobet and Summit, central and eastern Addis Ababa. The school offers both the Ethiopian curriculum (up to Year 8) and the Cambridge curriculum, culminating in internationally recognised AS and A-level qualifications. Recently, the school has also achieved a 99% pass rate across all subjects.
“Flipper International School has always been a beacon of academic excellence in the region. We look forward, therefore, to applying our resources and expertise to this school and taking it to even greater heights in the years to come,” concluded Whyte.
