JLP and PNP both optimistic of victory in Aenon Town

The ruling Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) and the Opposition People's National Party (PNP) are both expressing optimism of victory in today's by-election in the Aenon Town Division in Clarendon.

Our news team caught up JLP May Pen Mayor Joel Williams at polling division 23, Trout Hall Primary, where he claimed that his party is over performing.

“We would have been out and did a thorough canvass of the PD and thus far as it relates to our finding, we are performing about expectation,” he said.

He noted efforts to mobilise voters who abstained from the February local government election.

Meanwhile, PNP Vice President Mikael Phillips blamed poor road conditions for delays in transporting voters but remained confident.

“What is giving us a warm time is really the road condition, having persons going out and taking a long time to come back,” Phillips said, adding he expects the PNP to reclaim the division.

The JLP's Suzette Barton is facing off with the PNP's Delroy Dawson for the seat, who won the division by 92 votes in the February local government election.
