An autistic woman was allegedly sexually assaulted by a shop clerk after he told her she could only buy a sex toy if she tried it out with him in the back room.

The suspect then reportedly started touching her and tried to penetrate her at a sex shop in Paris, according to French newspaper Le Parisien.

The victim refused the man's advances and ran out of the shop, before reporting the incident to her father and human resources manager.

The attack allegedly took place at around 12.30pm on Monday at a sex shop on the Boulevard de Clichy, in the 9th arrondissement of Paris.

Police said they were given a description of the suspect, who was quickly arrested and taken into custody.

An investigation has now been launched into the alleged attack and it is understood that the sex shop has CCTV cameras inside.

The Boulevard de Clichy is a famous street in Paris lined with erotic sex shops.

The shops first appeared in the 1960s but their numbers have been in decline due to changes in the consumption of pornography.
