A murder investigation has been launched after the body of a 24-year-old woman was found in the boot of a car.

The grisly discovery was made on Brisbane Road next to a park in Ilford, east London, shortly after midnight on Thursday.

Cops found the body while responding to reports from colleagues in Northamptonshire raising concerns about the welfare of a woman. She was believed to be in a car in the east London area.

A forensic tent has been placed over the vehicle and access to the park blocked off, locals have said.

No arrests have been made but police are treating the woman's death as suspicious.
