Man instantly regrets trying to swim in floodwaters

A young man messed around and almost found out what can happen when Mother Nature is tested.

A bystander filmed the moment the unidentified daredevil in Brazil attempted to swim in floodwaters and was swept away on Wednesday.

The man had joked with friends that he could swim in the middle of an avenue in Carapicuíba, a city in the state of São Paulo, during a storm, the state's Civil Defense revealed.

The footage showed him in a sitting position as the current carried him down the street.

He appeared to try to stand up and tried to grab on to a tree, but was swept away.

The went missing for several hours before the fire department located him safely in the evening. He declined medical attention. 

Carapicuíba had 5.6 inches of rain, according to data released by the Civil Defense.

The storm also caused a stream in the city to spill onto Francisco Pignatari Avenue, where 350 people were displaced from their homes.

At least 53,000 homes were left without electricity in the Greater São Paulo Metropolitan region by Wednesday evening, authorities said. 

The Civil Defense issued warned of lightning, strong wind gusts and the chance of hail.

The storm was generated by a cold front in the southeastern coast region.

Heavy rain is expected Friday and should clear out before dawn Saturday.
