A woman who was hit and killed by a car while 'carrying Christmas presents' has been pictured for the first time - as her heartbroken family paid tribute.

Lin Donnelly, 72, died after she was struck by a blue Ford Focus on Brewster Street, in Bootle, Merseyside on Thursday night.

Witnesses described seeing bags and Christmas presents strewn across the road after the crash.

A 46-year-old man from Liverpool has since been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving. He has been interviewed and bailed pending further inquiries, police have said.

In a heart-breaking tribute released last night, Ms Donnelly's family said that her loss was 'unbearable'.

They said: 'Words can't describe the pain in our hearts at the unbearable loss of you. Our life will never be the same without you.'

Emergency services rushed to the scene at around 7.45pm on Thursday to reports of a crash.

Ms Donnelly was taken to hospital but sadly died a short time later. The driver of the car stopped at the scene, police said.
