Ukrainian drone sent to kill Russian soldier returns to save his life
by Shannon Mcguigan · Mail OnlineThis is the moment a Ukrainian drone sent to kill a Russian soldier with a grenade circled back to save the wounded trooper's life instead.
The 18-minute long video which was posted by the K-2 Battalion - a group within the Ukrainian Army's 54th Brigade - across their social media channels.
Set to an ominous tune, the drone footage shows a grenade being deployed onto the battlefield however the exact location or date is not entirely clear.
As clouds of smoke rose into the air the soldier survives two attempts on his life made with the deadly weapons in an area believed to be in the Donbas region of eastern Ukraine.
The drone controller drops five lethal grenades in total on the opposing army member, who narrowly dodges death on each bombing run.
Thought to have been filmed in late summer, the drone controller returns to the same location to find the man begging for his life.
The footage, which is believed to be part of a bid to encourage potential recruits to sign up to the K-2 Battalion, shows the Ukrainian seemingly take mercy on the bleeding soldier.
The group, similarly to the wider Ukrainian army is feeling the pressure to onboard more recruits.
The deflated Russian man crawls up onto his feet, however the drone controller attempts to signal that he is heading in the wrong direction.
Lacking energy and injured, the man desperately signals to the drone that he is in need of water to which the drone flies back to base to collect.
Adding a note with instructions of how to reach Ukrainian lines, the dehydrated and bleeding man clasps his hands together to thank the Ukrainian controller.
Exhausted and battered, the Russian find a syringe of painkillers in his pocket which he administers into his left arm, before he attempts to muster up the strength to move.
As he makes his way into the sun soaked battlefield of No Man's Land the soldier with an injured leg instantly falls over before slowly getting up again in an attempt to reach safety.
The Ukrainian drone continue to guide him, as billows of smoke from recent fighting emerge from fields.
During the journey, the Russian man indicated he wants to have a cigarette break before continuing, lying in a crater for a few minutes.
Panning out to the wider field as the sun began to set on the battlefield, more air attacks began to fall as the drone continued to guide him through.
The footage, which was collated by the Ukrainian battalion claimed the attacks were coming from the opposition.
Eventually the Russian soldier arrives at the enemy lines and is met by two Ukrainian infantrymen.
Sternly marching towards the injured man, the soldiers appear to tug him away before marching him towards their command post.
