Byker shooting suspect still being quizzed as hunt continues
A man, in his 40s, remains in hospital after being found injured on Headlam Green
by Evening Chronicle · ChronicleLiveA suspect held after an alleged broad daylight gun attack is today still being questioned by police as the hunt for any accomplices continues.
A man, in his 40s, was taken to hospital with what police believed to be firearms injuries following the incident, which happened in Byker, Newcastle yesterday afternoon. He is today still being treated. A 21-year-old man who was arrested soon after is still being questioned in police custody and the Chronicle understands officers are continuing to hunt for anyone else who might be involved.
A Northumbria Police spokesman said yesterday: “At around 1.50pm today we received a report of a disturbance in the Headlam Green area of Byker in Newcastle. Emergency services attended the scene where they found a man with injuries consistent with having been caused by a firearm.
"The man, in his 40s, was taken to hospital for treatment of injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening. Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and locate those involved. Officers remain in the area to carry out enquiries and offer reassurance to the public. A 21-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the report, and remains in police custody at this time."
Armed police were seen close to the Byker Wall following the incident yesterday.
