Alan Carr related to Paul Gascoigne as comedian drops family bombshell and Newcastle link

by · ChronicleLive

Alan Carr has dropped the bombshell that he is actually related to football legend Paul Gascoigne, with the comedian revealing on a podcast this week that he and Gazza had the same great grandad. And the family connection to Newcastle doesn't stop there either, with Alan's dad once being a top scout at NUFC.

Alan is no stranger to the beautiful game, with his dad Graham playing for the likes of Northampton Town and York City, before ending up as manager of Northampton and other clubs like Blackpool and Maidstone. Graham is now an associate director at his first club and Alan's footballing background is something documented in his autobiographical ITV series Changing Ends.

Alan talked about his surprising relative in the latest episode of hit podcast Saving Grace. Speaking to host GK Barry, rumoured to be on the I'm A Celebrity 2024 line-up, Alan said" Do you know who my second cousin is? Paul Gascoigne." Having received a blank look from 25-year-old GK, Alan added: "Do you know who he is? He's a legend!

"You'll know Paul Gascoigne. What would you know him for? He turned up for Raoul Moat in a dressing gown with a chicken and a fishing rod," as she replied in shock; "And he's your cousin?!"

Alan clarified: "Second cousin. That means we've got the same great grandad. Everyone plays football in my family apart from me. It's not in my genes is it...clearly not!"

The fact that Gazza, who actually once appeared as a guest on his hit Channel 4 show Chatty Man is his second cousin isn't the only link now Drag Race UK judge has to Newcastle, as his dad Graham, born in Corbridge, was actually a scout for United from 2010-17 and had a big hand in bringing overseas stars like Hatem Ben Arfa, Yohan Cabaye, Sylvain Marveaux, Papiss Cissé and Cheick Tioté to Tyneside.
