Prudhoe drink-driver travelled in middle of road then hit curb when police pulled him over
by Sara Nichol · ChronicleLiveA drink-driver travelled in the middle of the road then hit a curb when police decided to pull him over.
Sean Pitt was watched by officers as came out of a pub in Prudhoe, Northumberland, and drove away. A court heard that they immediately became concerned that the 57-year-old was intoxicated as his Vauxhall was travelling at 20mph in the middle of a single carriageway road.
As a result, the officers signalled for Pitt to pull over then saw him hit a curb as he tried to bring his vehicle to a stop. Pitt failed a roadside breath test, giving a reading of 85mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath when the legal limit is 35mcg.
And now, Pitt, of Bradley Road, in Prudhoe, has now been banned from driving for 20 months after he pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol. Glenda Beck, prosecuting at Newcastle Magistrates' Court, said police watched Pitt drive out The Falcon Pub car park on November 4.
Mrs Beck continued: "Officers became concerned that the driver was intoxicated due to the manner of driving. He was driving at 20mph in a 30mph zone and he was travelling in the centre of the road before moving back on to the correct side.
"They indicated for him to stop and, in doing so, his wheel hit the curb, coming to a rest on the footpath." The court heard that Pitt hadn't been in trouble since 2003.
Geoffrey Forrester, defending, said Pitt hadn't been driving erratically, only slowly, and had pleaded guilty. Pitt was fined £120 and must pay £85 costs and a £48 victim surcharge.
