Byker man arrested on suspicion of drug possession as police identify vehicle

A man has been arrested in Byker on suspicion of possession of a controlled drug, after police identified a vehicle of interest. At 7pm on Sunday, Northumbria Police identified the suspicious vehicle on Union Street in the Byker area.

The man, who is in his 40s, was then arrested, and he remains in police custody at this time. Officers are still in the area, as they carry out searches of a premises on Union Street, which is related to the ongoing investigation.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: "At 7pm yesterday (Sunday), we identified a vehicle of interest on Union Street in the Byker area of Newcastle.

"We arrested the driver of the vehicle, a man in his 40s, on suspicion of possession of a controlled drug. He remains in police custody.

"Officers remain in the area to carry out searches at a premises on Union Street in relation to the investigation."
