The emergency services were called to the scene of a crash a tthe Denton Roundabout - the junction between the West Road and Denton Road on the edge of the city.
It's understood the police and the ambulance service both attended the incident, which was reported at around 4.11pm. The injured person was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle for further treatment.
A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called to reports of a road traffic collision on Denton Road in Newcastle at 4.11pm today (15 October). We dispatched one ambulance crew, who treated one patient before transporting them to the RVI for further treatment."
Northumbria Police has been contacted for comment.
