Gateshead paedophile sent intimate pictures and sexual messages to 'girl' in police sting

by · ChronicleLive

A decoy online profile snared a paedophile, who sent a picture of male private parts and sexual messages to what he thought was a young girl.

Over a period of a week, George Robinson sent the vile image and asked the "youngster" to respond with photos of herself. A court heard the 33-year-old also told the girl, who he knew was under the age of 16, what sexual things he would do to her if they were together.

The pervert was unaware the youth, called "Hannah", was actually an undercover police officer and he was later arrested. Robinson, formerly of Heaton, but now of Saltwell Place, in Gateshead, pleaded guilty to attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child when he appeared at Newcastle Magistrates' Court.

He denied a further offence of possessing 150 prohibited images of children and that matter was set down for trial on January 28 next year, at South East Northumberland Magistrates' Court. Robinson will argue that he didn't know the images were on his hard drive.

The court heard that the sexual communication with a child happened between October 3 and 15 2022 and involved "sending a picture of a penis, asking Hannah for pictures and saying what he would do with Hannah if they were together".

Adjourning the case until his trial for the prohibited images, District Judge Paul Currer said: "You have pleaded guilty to attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child and you will be given credit for that. To the other matter, you have pleaded not guilty on the basis you had no knowledge of the images.

"That matter will have to be tried. That trial will be on January 28. I'm bailing you to come back to Bedlington Magistrates' Court on that day.

"Should you fail to attend, you potentially commit an offence under the bail act. The trial could proceed in your absence. Because you have pleaded guilty to the attempted sexual communication, you are now subject to the [sex offender] notification requirements."
