Gosforth beautician grabbed colleague by the hair and smashed head off car roof
by Sara Nichol · ChronicleLiveA Gosforth beautician grabbed a colleague by the hair and smashed her head off a car door while her child was present.
Lauren Brown and the victim had fallen out and had an argument at the Airport Industrial Estate, in Kingston Park, but the latter had decided to walk away and get into her vehicle. However, Brown followed the woman and was caught on CCTV grabbing her hair and banging her head off her car's roof, a court heard.
Brown, of Granville Road, in Gosforth, was pulled from the victim by her partner and later arrested, however, she pleaded not guilty to one count of assault by beating and her case was set down for trial. The mum was subsequently convicted after that trial and appeared back at Newcastle Magistrates' Court for sentence.
Giving her a 12-month community order, District Judge Paul Currer said: "It was an unpleasant incident that occurred at the Airport Industrial Estate. You came across [the victim] and there was a dispute between the two of you.
"There was words exchanged. However, as [the victim] was going back to her car, and I have seen the footage and she was at the door of her car, you approached her and grabbed her hair and banged her head against the car's roof, causing pain and injury. You had to be separated by her partner.
"You pleaded not guilty and there was a trial, therefore, I cannot give you any credit. It was made worse that [the victim's] child was present at the time in the back seat of the car, which was extremely distressing."
The court heard that Brown had been employed as a beautician at the time of the incident, on December 14 last year, and worked with the victim. In a statement, the woman said: "I'm scared there will be repercussions. She is very unpleasant and I don't want any further injuries."
Matthew Purves, defending, said Brown had been experiencing difficulties in her personal life. He added: "Since December, there has been no further incident or aggravation of the complainant."
Brown was also fined £200 and ordered to pay £300 costs and an £80 victim surcharge. She was also made subject of a one-year restraining order, which banned her from contacting the victim for 12 months.
