Collision between Felling and Windy Nook sees two taken to hospital with one in critical condition

A serious collision between Felling and Windy Nook has led to two people being taken to hospital, one in a critical condition. At 4.30pm on Saturday afternoon, Northumbria Police received a report of a collision between a car and a bus on Coldwell Lane.

Police attended alongside the North East Ambulance Service, who sent two emergency ambulance crews, a specialist paramedic and a clinical team leader. Two people were then taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, one of whom is in a critical condition.

Officers are currently still in attendance, with enquiries into the incident ongoing. Coldwell Lane, from the Tesco Express junction with Albion Street, to just before Falla Park Road, is currently closed to traffic. A police cordon is in place while the enquiries are taking place, with the road having now been closed for over five hours.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: "At around 4.30pm today (Saturday), we received a call to report a two vehicle road traffic collision on Coldwell Lane, between Felling and Windy Nook. Police are currently in attendance at the scene.

"Coldwell Lane from Tesco junction with Albion Street, to just before Falla Park Road is currently closed to traffic and a police cordon is in place while enquiries are ongoing."

A NEAS spokesperson said: "We received a call to 999 this afternoon at 16.27pm to reports of a road traffic incident involving a car and a bus on Coldwell Lane in Gateshead.

"We sent two emergency ambulance crews, a specialist paramedic and a clinical team leader. Two patients were taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Gateshead, one in a critical condition."
