Trial date set for man accused of stabbing detective in Frankland Prison

A trial date has been set for a County Durham man charged with the attempted murder of a police officer at HMP Frankland.

On July 23, a detective constable serving with Greater Manchester Police sustained a single stab wound to the chest at the Category A men's prison in Brasside. The officer suffered critical injuries and was taken to hospital, but was discharged to recover at home.

David Taylor, 62, formerly of Willington, County Durham, appeared at Teesside Crown Court via video link from HMP Frankland on Tuesday morning.

A brief hearing took place, where he was not asked to enter a plea. A plea hearing will take place on November 7, with his trial set for February 17, 2025.
