Newcastle raids: Nine due in court on drug charges following Northumbria Police operation
by Daniel Hall · ChronicleLiveNine people will appear in court on drug charges after a series of warrants were executed across the city on Tuesday.
Class A heroin and Class B spice were sized by police as part of Operation Casper, a multi-agency approach aimed at reducing the number of drugs being dealt in the city. As well as the charges, support is being offered to those with drug addiction issues.
All nine people who were arrested on Tuesday have since been charged and scheduled to appear at Newcastle Magistrates' Court today.
Detective Sergeant Shaun Stokoe, of Northumbria Police, said that work on Operation Casper was ongoing. He said: "The illegal use of drugs has absolutely no place in our communities and where we are made aware that the dealing of these types of substances is taking place, we will always take the appropriate action."
Coun Adam Walker, Newcastle City Council's cabinet member for adult social care, health and prevention highlighted work being done in the city 'to help drug users transform their lives' and added: "I would urge anybody who is concerned for a friend or a loved one’s drug use, or for their own wellbeing, to get help from the great drug and alcohol support services we have in Newcastle."
Northumbria Police encouraged anyone who would like to report information about suspected drug-dealing to send them a direct message on social media, use the live chat function or reports forms on the force website, or by calling 101.
