Man due in court after Blyth knife attack with one alleged victim still in hospital
by Daniel Hall · ChronicleLiveA man is set to appear in court today after a police incident in Blyth closed the town's bus station and much of the surrounding area on Sunday.
Forensics teams combed the area around Bridge Street and the surrounding streets throughout Sunday, after three people were taken to hospital with knife wounds following a street fight in the early hours of the morning. By Monday morning, the cordon had been removed and buses were able enter and leave the bus station and businesses were able to open as normal.
Emergency services were originally called shortly before 1am on Sunday morning after reports of a fight in the street. Three men were taken to hospital with wounds thought to be caused by a bladed article.
All three men sustained non-life threatening injuries and two were discharged from hospital on Sunday. One man remains in hospital this morning.
The 31-year-old man who was arrested has now been charged with three counts of causing grievous bodily harm with intent, three counts of possessing an offensive weapon, and a further charge of attempting grievous bodily harm with intent. He is due to appear at South East Northumberland Magistrates' Court in Bedlington today.
A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: "A 31-year-old man who was arrested has since been charged in connection with the report with three counts of cause grievous bodily harm with intent, three counts of possess offensive weapon, and attempt grievous bodily harm with intent.
"He is scheduled to appear before magistrates in Northumberland today (Monday). With charges now live, we would urge the public not to speculate about the incident both online and in the community."
