Jesmond thug had to be PAVA sprayed and Tasered as he resisted arrest for assault
by Sara Nichol · ChronicleLiveA thug had to be PAVA sprayed and Tasered as he desperately tried to resist being arrested for an assault.
Kier Pearson, who has a previous conviction for biting an officer, had punched a man in the face outside a pub when police turned up and he attempted to flee the scene on foot. A court heard that the 32-year-old was quickly located but refused to allow himself to be arrested.
It resulted in Pearson first being sprayed with PAVA, similar to pepper spray, but, when that had little effect, he was further restrained with a Taser. Pearson, of Deneside Court, in Jesmond, was finally detained and appeared at Newcastle Magistrates' Court to plead guilty to assault by beating and resisting arrest.
Prosecutor, Claire Armstrong, said police were called to a suspected assault at The Golden Bee Pub, in Stratford-Upon-Avon, at 11.30pm on November 24 last year. Miss Armstrong continued: "CCTV shows the defendant punching a male to the side of the head causing bruising to his cheek.
"When police arrived, he was told he was being arrested, at which point he ran from the police. Two officers chased him and caught up with him. The defendant pushed both officers to try and stop the arrest."
The court heard that Pearson, who has 10 offences on his record, was than sprayed with PAVA before being Tasered, which was when he was finally detained. Jack Lovell, defending, said Pearson suffered from autism and had gone to Stratford in search of work.
Mr Lovell added: "He's a dryliner. He's stayed out of trouble since 2021. On this occasion, he was approached by the other male, he told him to go away. There was a threat made to Mr Pearson."
Pearson was given a 12-month community order and was fined £50.
