The World Conker Championships returned to Peterborough with a bang, attracting over 200 competitors to the Shuckburgh Arms in Southwick.

Participants, many of whom sported unique headgear and outfits, battled it out using conkers threaded onto string, aiming to smash their opponent's nut in three alternate strikes.

One participant stood out with his green inflatable Yoda headpiece, while another opted for a conker-themed hat.

David Jakins, known as King Conker, demonstrated his serious intent with a determined look and precise swing.

Another competitor added a touch of glamour to the event with her shiny blue and silver ruffled trousers.

The competition adheres to a strict set of rules, including the provision of conkers and laces by organisers, a minimum distance of 20cm between knuckle and nut, and penalties for foul play.

Since its launch in 1965, the event has been dedicated to raising funds for charities supporting those with visual impairments, amassing over £400,000 throughout the years.
