Police arrest man armed with hedge cutter during dispute with neighbour in Northumberland
by Owen Younger · ChronicleLivePolice have arrested a 37-year-old man who was in possession of a hedge cutter during a dispute with a neighbour. At 8pm on Sunday, Northumbria Police received report of a disturbance in West Wylam.
Officers arrived at the scene, where the man involved in the verbal dispute was arrested for possession of an offensive weapon. He is currently still in police custody, with enquiries ongoing into the nature of the incident.
Councillor Gordon Stewart, a representative of Prudhoe South, said this during the incident: "I am aware that police are responding to an incident in Prudhoe this evening.
"I would urge residents to remain calm and allow officers to carry out their work. I would also remind residents against speculating on social media."
A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: "At 8pm on Sunday (November 17) we received reports of disturbance in the West Wylam area.
"It was reported that a man, who was in possession of a hedge cutter, had been involved in a verbal dispute with a neighbour.
"Officers attended the scene where a 37-year-old man was subsequently arrested for possession of an offensive weapon, he remains in police custody at this time. Enquiries are ongoing into the incident."
