Aldi recalls food item over allergy fears as 'do not eat' warning issued - full details of product
Aldi says the product is being recalled as it contains an undeclared allergen and customers are asked to return it to their nearest store
by Sonia Sharma · ChronicleLiveAldi has issued a warning over one of its food products that could pose a risk to anyone with a certain allergy and health condition.
The supermarket is recalling The Fishmonger Soy & Ginger Fusions Tuna because it contains wheat (gluten) which is not mentioned on the label. This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with coeliac disease, and/or an allergy or intolerance to wheat or gluten.
Anyone who may be affected by the product is being asked not to eat it. Shoppers are instead urged to return it to an Aldi store for a refund.
In its warning notice, Aldi says: "Our supplier is recalling The Fishmonger Soy & Ginger Fusions Tuna because the product contains an undeclared allergen (wheat). Customers are asked to return this product to their nearest store, where a full refund will be given. We apologise that this product did not meet our normal high standards and thank you for your co-operation."
The warning has also been shared by the Food Standards Agency. It said: "Aldi is recalling the above product from customers and has contacted the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall. The company has also issued a recall notice to its customers. These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product.
"If you have bought the above product and have coeliac disease, and/or an allergy or intolerance to wheat or gluten, do not eat it. Instead return it to the store from where it was purchased for a full refund. For more information, please visit help.aldi.co.uk or customer services can be contacted on 0800 042 0800 (UK)."
