Police and firefighters sent to three-vehicle crash involving Uber in Newcastle city centre
by David Huntley · ChronicleLiveFirefighters and police descended on an area of Newcastle city centre over the weekend following a car crash involving an Uber.
Emergency services were called to Barras Bridge on Saturday morning after a collision involving three vehicles. One of the vehicles involved was an Uber, and the road was closed for a period of time, causing traffic delays.
As fuel was leaking from one of the vehicles, fire crews were called and remained on scene for over an hour. Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported.
A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Shortly before 11.50am on Saturday, November 16, we received a report of a three-vehicle collision at the junction of the B1318 and Claremont Road in Newcastle. Emergency services attended where no life-threatening injuries were reported.”
Pictures from the scene of the crash showed the extent of the damage caused, with one front bumper detaching completely from a car. Debris also lay strewn across the road before it was cleared and the road re-opened.
A Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We can confirm that appliances from Newcastle Central and Byker Community Fire Stations were dispatched to Barras Bridge in Newcastle on Saturday, November 16 after a report of a road traffic collision.
“Northumbria Police requested assistance at 11.54am regarding liquid leaking from a vehicle and the first crew arrived at 11.59am. Crews left the scene shortly after 1.14pm.”
