A disgusting teenager spat in an officer's face and dug her nails into his arm when she was confronted for fare dodging at a station.

Lyndsay Gordon, who has a history of assaulting police, had got off a train at Newcastle Central Station when she was confronted for not having a ticket. A court heard that the 18-year-old shouted and screamed and refused to give her details to the officers from the British Transport Police, in full view of other rail users.

However, when informed she was being arrested, Gordon's behaviour escalated and she dug her nails into one constable's arm in an "attempt to break the skin", prosecutors said. As she was being escorted from the station, the teenager continued to shout and scream and tried to kick out at the officers but missed.

Gordon, of Old Edinburgh Road, in Glasgow, then turned and spat directly into the same constable's face before trying to spit at others, Newcastle Magistrates' Court was told. She was further arrested for assaulting an emergency worker and fare dodging and pleaded guilty to the charges when she appeared in the dock just over 24 hours later.

Stephen Davies, prosecuting, said Gordon had boarded a train at Edinburgh at 5.40am on Wednesday, September 18, and pretended to be asleep when an inspector asked for her ticket. As a result, he rang police at Newcastle Central Station, where she got off.

Mr Davies continued: "She took issue with the police speaking to her, saying "nobody is to take hold of me". The office said they would not but he wanted her details.

"She would not give her details, saying she suffered from PTSD. She would not give any details and walked back and forth on the platform, indicating she was looking for a way to escape. As she would not give her details, the officer took hold of her arm and said he was arresting her.

"She tried to pull away. She was taken to the floor and then dug her nails into the officer's left arm, attempting to break the skin. She continued to struggle and swear at officers."

The court heard that Gordon was eventually brought to her feet and was being escorted towards the station's exit when she turned and spat in the officer's face. Despite doing this, she continued to shout and swear and attempt to spit at others.

Mr Davies said Gordon had a history of assaulting police officers in Scotland. Adjourning the case for the preparation of a pre-sentence report, District Judge Paul Currer said: "You have pleaded guilty to these offences .

"The fact you spat in someone's face and the way you behaved is really a serious offence." Gordon was released on bail to next appear at the same court for sentence on November 7.
