Meet the dogs still looking for loving homes after months in North East kennels - could you help?
by Nicole Goodwin · ChronicleLiveMaggie, Buzz, Flash and Gary are just some of the dogs who reguarly feature in ChronicleLive's pet rehoming appeals as they're yet to find their forever home.
They are some of the longest-serving residents at Dogs Trust in Darlington at the moment and staff would love for them to find their happy ever after.
Taking on a pet is a big commitment, so it is important to do your research before adopting an animal. But for those who are able to commit to offering a pet a home can receive a lifetime of love in return.
To help give all dogs a fair chance of finding their forever home, Dogs Trust applications allow people to share what type of dog they're looking for. People can add up to four favourites to their application to give the charity an idea of the dogs an applicant likes, so they can consider you for similar dogs.
Details and enquiries about the dogs currently living at Dogs Trust in Darlington can be found by visiting their website here.
Here are the adorable dogs who are currently looking for their forever homes in the North East.
Dave
He's so much fun to be around and is guaranteed to make you laugh with his fun personality. He enjoys a game of rag but is much more interested in sniffing out treats, so watch those kitchen counters! Enrichment games, those that involve food especially will be a great way to keep him entertained.
Dave is looking for a home with a family who are ready for lots of fun. He's a bouncy lad so will need positive outlets and further training to keep him physically and mentally active and happy.
Dave will need someone at home majority of the day to keep him company and put training in place. He is sensitive to noise - especially traffic - so will need a little work in this area too. A home environment that isn't surrounded with heavy traffic will be the best set up for him to settle in and show off his amazing personality.
Access to more peaceful walking areas will be great too so he can explore at ease. Dave is a bit full on with his play with some dogs, but he can live with another pending a successful introduction. If any kids in the home, they should be aged 10yrs or over.(Image: Darlington Dogs Trust)

Amigo
Staff at Darlington Dogs Trust say Amigo is looking for a family who have plenty of time to spend with him and are up for doing some training with him. He can react to other dogs when out and about so would be best as the only pet in the home.
Less dog popular walking routes would be ideal for him to explore on the lead at ease whilst this is worked on. When meeting Amigo, the team will chat through his training plans so he can carry on thriving in the home.
Amigo is an older chap and won’t appreciate the busyness of very young kids, teenagers who will allow him his chilled-out times will be ok.(Image: Darlington Dogs Trust)

Sid
Staff at Darlington Dogs Trust say Sid is such an affectionate lad and even gives you a little nudge when he's ready for more attention.
He loves to zoom and enjoys the chase of toys. He knows a few tricks already including ‘sit’ and ‘paw’ and he’s just started to master ‘down’.
He’d love to keep his mind active and build on his training further. Sid walks well on the lead and enjoys using his super snoot to sniff out all the smells.
He is going to be an amazing addition to welcome into the family. He can’t wait to enjoy his nights snuggled up next to you on the sofa!
Sid would like to enjoy a garden space for his quick zoomies and have playtimes in. Sid would like to further his training with the help of his family. He can live with another dog in the home and with teenagers.(Image: Darlington Dogs Trust)

Luna
A quieter home with minimal visitors would be ideal as she can find new people quite worrying. She adores those in her friendship circle and she is able to live with older teens.
To begin with Luna would like someone to be at home with her to keep her company. Once settled in, time alone can be gradually built up. Luna has made quite a few doggy friends during her time with us and can live with another four-legged friend.
She has also been in a home with a cat before so there is potential for this too. The existing cat should be used to having a dog around the house and staff will provide an introduction plan to follow to help the intro go smoothly.
It will be best for adopters to have a couple of meets with Luna at the centre before heading home together.
Luna has truly blossomed and gained in confidence with slow introductions and exposure to everyday life.
Things will still need to be taken at a steady pace when in the home but with the right environment and a patient family staff are sure she will continue to shine.
She enjoys her off-lead playtimes so a garden will be the ideal place for toy-time and fun enrichment games. After stretching her legs, she likes to laze about on the sofa and snuggle up next to you.
If you are ready to welcome a fun and loveable girl into your life then be sure to give Luna a favourite!(Image: Darlington Dogs Trust)

Blain
He’d like plenty of positive experiences and slow introductions to new situations as his confidence grows. Blain very much likes to stay by your side, so he’ll need someone at home with him to keep him company and settle him in.
Very young kids and a very busy environment won’t suit this sensitive lad but a peaceful yet predictable environment with secondary school ages kids will be ok.
You’ll need to find some secret hiding places for Blain’s treat jar as he has a super nose on him and is sure to help himself if there’s any freebies going.
Blain is working on his doggy social skills and can share his walks with others with a calm temperament. Although in the home he’d like his own space by being an only dog.(Image: Darlington Dogs Trust)

Luca
He can live with children aged 13 plus who will appreciate when Luca needs to have some quiet time. He will be best suited to being the only dog in the home but will enjoy having some dog chums while out on his walks.
He will need understanding adopters who will give him time to settle into his new home as this will take him a bit of time to get used to his new home.(Image: Darlington Dogs Trust)

Maggie
Once she builds up a relationship with people she has a bouncy cheeky side as you would expect from a young lurcher. She loves a fuss once she has made friends.
Maggie needs a bit of a confidence boost and ongoing training. She's not keen on being by herself and loves company so will need her time being left alone built up very gradually in a sympathetic way.
Maggie will prefer to be the only dog in the home but must have walking buddies to keep her social and she does have multiple walking buddies here and loves her dog friends.
She needs an adult-only home, with no visiting children and a garden of her own. This little lady will be a lovely addition to a kind and patient family willing to help her blossom into a more confident, adult dog.(Image: Dogs Trust)

Greg
He'd like to have lots of positive experiences with his new family to help boost his confidence with formal handling. He likes to play with his toys and is happy for you to join in the fun. He's a big fan of his food but is polite at taking treats.
Greg is on the lookout for a quieter home where he can be allowed the space and time to settle in. He does make friends quite easily but prefers to keep food to himself and can be uncomfortable with formal handling.
He will not be suitable to live with children or with them visiting. His family will need to be able to read his body language to recognise when he needs a time out. A home with a garden will be ideal so he can have easy access for some off lead playtime.(Image: Darlington Dogs Trust)

Ricky
He will need to be the only dog in the home while his doggy social skills are worked on as he can be too much for other dogs. If children are in the home they will need to be aged 15 or over and any time spent alone will need to be built up slowly for him once he has settled in.
Ricky is a young boy who is looking for a family that will teach him the basics and give him both physical exercise and mental activities. A secure garden would be beneficial for Ricky so that he can have some off lead zoomies as he will need to be kept on lead while out on his adventures. He enjoys playing with his toys and can't wait to have a family to call his own.(Image: Darlington Dogs Trust)

Scarlett
Scarlett would like to brush up on some of her basic training skills with the help of a tasty reward.
Scarlett is an excitable girl looking for a family who are confident around larger breeds. She is super friendly but doesn't always remember her size so would be best to live with older primary school kids.
In the home Scarlett would like to be the only dog but she can share her walks with a few well-mannered four-legged friends. Leaving hours should be minimal as any time on her own will need building up.(Image: Darlington Dogs Trust)

Charlie
He's super happy when interacting with his friend's - dog and human. He'd like to keep active with exploring out on walks, enrichment games and furthering his training. He’s a clever lad and likes toys as a reward.
Charlie is an enthusiastic lad looking for a family who enjoy days out with their dog and doing training activities. He does like to be on the go and will need plenty of entertaining with activities and training.
Charlie will need to have time devoted to his training needs and have someone around most of the day to help settle him in and build up any time that he needs to spend on his own. Charlie is dog social and playful with other dogs so may share the home with another four-legged friend who also enjoys playtimes. He can live with secondary school aged kids who are confident around lively dogs.
For someone who is up for training and plenty of fun, Charlie might just be the guy for you.(Image: Darlington Dogs Trust)
