Two hospitalised after crash in Durham that saw elderly driver cut out of car by firefighters on A1

Durham Constabulary is appealing for witnesses after a three-vehicle crash left two people in hospital

Two people had to be cut from their car after a three-vehicle crash on the A1 in Durham on Friday morning.

Durham Constabulary are now appealing for witnesses to assist their investigation. The crash took place shortly before 10.30am on the Northbound carriageway of the A1 (M) - close to the Carrville interchange.

It involved a DAF Truck, Toyoya Hilux and Ford Focus. The two people injured were an elderly driver and passenger in the Ford. They both had to be cut from their vehicle and were subsequently hospitalised.

In a statement, Durham Constabulary said: "Can you help officers investigating a three-car road traffic collision? The incident happened on the A1(M) Northbound at Carrville interchange just before 10.30am today.

"The incident involved a DAF Truck, Toyota Hilux and Ford Focus. The elderly driver and passenger of the Focus had to be cut out of their car and were taken to hospital. No-one else is believed to have been injured but officers are keen to hear from anyone who might have dashcam footage."
