Remorseless Throckley racist hurled plant pot at shop worker and shouted vile abuse

Dad-of-six Michael Graham twice targeted the same Sainsbury's security guard but told a Probation officer he 'had no remorse and didn't regret his actions'

A remorseless racist hurled a plant pot at a shop worker and shouted vile abuse in front of shocked customers.

Michael Graham twice targeted the same security guard in Sainsbury's, assaulting him on one occasion and yelling disgusting racist slurs on another. A court heard that the dad-of-six threw a plant pot at the victim and told him "you should go back to your own country, you black, fat, baldy c***," during the two disgraceful incidents inside the Throckley branch of the supermarket.

Graham was arrested and appeared before magistrates in Newcastle this week, where he told a Probation worker that he "had no remorse and didn't regret his actions". The 33-year-old, who pleaded guilty to racially-aggravated assault and a racially-aggravated public order offence, also said he would not do any unpaid work, if he was sentenced to a community order.

Instead, the lout, of Broomyhill Road, in Throckley, Newcastle, was ordered to pay the victim £200 compensation as part of an 18-month community order. Chairing magistrate, Dr Vivien Hollyoak, said: "We.re extremely disappointed to hear you have shown no remorse towards a man who was merely there doing his job.

"We're also disappointed that you felt that you can't do unpaid work. I very much hope you make all positive efforts to undertake this community order."

The court heard that the assault happened on November 11 last year after Graham had entered Sainsbury's and been spotted by the security guard. Stephen Davies, prosecuting, said Graham had previously been barred from the shop, so the security guard spoke with him.

Mr Davies added: "The defendant shouted "f*** off baldy, I will take you outside and sort you out". The defendant began walking out the store and that set the alarms off and he shouted "f*** off back to your own country". The defendant then picked up a plant pot and threw it at the security guard."

The court heard that, less than a month later on December 7 last year, Graham again entered the store and the victim asked him to leave. This time, Graham shouted "You should go back to your own country, you black, fat, baldy c***" and "I will sort you out, I will be waiting for you".

Magistrates were told that Graham, who has a number of past convictions and has previously served a prison sentence, was a dad of six and had one child who was only four weeks old. Ian Cassidy, defending, said: "He lost his temper because of the manner in which the security guard spoke to him - he thought it was unnecessary.

"He could have taken him aside and had a word with him but, instead, it was in a very loud way in front of members of public."
