A man has appeared in court accused of sexually assaulting a woman in a jacuzzi at a popular leisure centre.

Olsi Oshafi was alleged to have groped a female stranger at Concordia Leisure Centre, in Cramlington. The 35-year-old found himself being arrested after the suspected victim reported what she claimed happened to her to centre bosses and the police were called.

Oshafi, of Allensgreen, in Cramlington, appeared in the dock at South East Northumberland Magistgrates' Court to face one count of sexual assault. He spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth and address and to enter a not guilty plea to the charge.

Prosecutor, Paul Anderson, said the case was suitable to be tried before magistrates and Jack Lovell, defending, agreed. Mr Anderson said the alleged offence happened in the jacuzzi at Concordia.

Magistrates accepted jurisdiction and the case was listed for trial back at the same court on February 3 next year. In the meantime, Oshafi was released on conditional bail, which bans him from entering Concordia.
