The right temperature to prevent mould in your home and save on bills, according to energy expert
by Sonia Sharma · ChronicleLiveAn energy expert has revealed the perfect temperature your home should be at to prevent mould from developing.
Over the winter months, condensation becomes common as the warmer indoor air comes in contact with the cold outside air. And as many householders are grappling with high energy costs, some may be tempted to reduce their heating to save on bills.
However, experts at Your NRG warn that this can backfire by creating an environment suited to mould growth. They have explained what temperature is ideal for your home.
A spokesperson said: "Keep your home’s thermostat over 14 degrees Celsius to prevent mould growth - a little higher in tiled rooms. Anything below this threshold will encourage damp to develop in your house, impacting your property and your well-being.
"Many homeowners think that leaving their heating on all day will create a warmer home, but this isn’t always the case. For optimal efficiency and mould prevention, set your boiler to activate only when warm water or heating is needed, and adjust to maintain the temperature you want."

There are also a number of things you can do to reduce costs. The experts added: "Small adjustments can lead to significant savings.
"By simply lowering your thermostat by one degree, households could save over £100 annually. Considering the potential impact on 17 million UK households, this adds up to a substantial £2b in potential savings.
"For a comfortable and energy-efficient winter, aim to keep your room temperature between 18 and 20 degrees Celsius. This range provides the ideal balance for both well-being and cost-effective heating."
