Gardaí investigating Kyran Durnin's disappearance cannot confirm any sighting of him this year

Kyran was reported missing from his home in Drogheda, Co. Louth, to gardaí on the 30th August 2024 with a report that he had been seen two days before in the local area

Gardaí investigating the case of missing eight year old Kyran Durnin have upgraded his disappearance to a murder investigation.

The investigators on the case are looking into the possibility that he may have died long before he was reported missing.

Kyran was reported missing from his home in Drogheda, Co. Louth, to gardaí on the 30th August 2024.

RTÉ is now reporting that gardaí are following the line of inquiry that Kyran may have died up to two years before he was reported missing.

Gardaí were told he was last seen alive two days earlier, but detectives do not believe sighting was accurate, according to Independent.ie.

A source told the newspaper: “There has not been a confirmed sighting of this child in over a year and pos­sibly even longer. ­Investigations are still ongoing to establish the timeline of events and confirm exactly when he was last seen alive.

“Specific information has been received that this child is dead and this, along with other enquiries, have led gardaí to upgrade it to a murder investigation.”

A Garda spokesman said: “Kyran was reported missing from his home in Drogheda, Co Louth, to An Garda Siochana on the 30th August 2024.

“Despite extensive enquiries carried out by Gardai to date, An Garda Siochana have been unable to either locate Kyran, identify any information on his current whereabouts or any evidence that he is currently alive."

"Following enquiries to date, investigating Gardai now believe that Kyran is missing presumed dead. A murder investigation has been commenced.”

He appealed for anyone with information to come forward. He said: “The investigation is being led by a Senior Investigation Officer based out of an incident room established at Drogheda Garda Station.

“Gardai are appealing to anyone who has any information in connection with the disappearance of Kyran to contact Drogheda Garda Station on 041 987 4200 , the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station. Any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, will be welcomed by the investigation team.

“This information will be treated in the strictest confidence."

"No arrests have been made. The investigation is ongoing.”

Kyran is described as being 3ft 3ins, with a medium build, brown eyes and brown hair.
