Audrey Carville is married to a very famous face at RTE - and her brother is well-known too

Audrey Carville is likely a familiar face to many across the country, however, her voice should be even more recognisable.

She wakes up with people around Ireland, presenting Morning Ireland on RTE Radio 1 - which is the same place her husband works.

The journalist is married to her husband Gavin Jennings, a fellow RTE presenter.

How old is Audrey and where is she from?

Audrey was born on 9 September 1972, making her 52 years old. She is originally from Castleblayney in County Monaghan.

She isn’t the only well-known person in her family as her father was Arthur Carville, who served as a Fine Gael party councillor on Monaghan County Council.

Her brother, Gary, also formerly worked as a Fine Gael councillor on Monaghan County Council, serving as Chairman of that council from 2007 to 2008.

RTE career

Audrey began presenting the BBC World Service radio programme Europe Today in 2004 and remained on the show until 2009. She also presented Newshour on the BBC World Service.

She worked for BBC Radio Ulster in Northern Ireland for a time, alongside independent local radio stations such as Highland Radio and Northern Sound.

She was named Radio News Broadcaster of the Year in the Institute of Public Relations/BT Awards in 2004. Audrey also won a Celtic Film and Television Award.

She joined RTE Radio 1 back in 2012 and started out on Drivetime, before working on The Late Debate and Today and now Morning Ireland.

Family life

Audrey is married to a very familiar face - Gavin Jennings, her fellow Morning Ireland presenter.

The couple share a daughter named Lucy together, who is around 14 years old, and a black labrador that they called Pal.

The couple prefer to stay quiet about their family together, however, Audrey did speak about their life at home during the pandemic.

She told RTE: “The sunny weather of recent weeks has been an enormous help in staying positive. It has meant that we’ve been able to eat outside, which is such a luxury in this country. We’ve been jumping on the trampoline, and playing football with Pal, our five-year-old Labrador, who’s a great defender

“We are also blessed with where we live because we have a number of parks very close by, where we play a few games of hurling and the Royal Canal provides a beautiful backdrop to our 5km walks.”
