Kyran Durnin: Detectives assessing arrests and data gleaned from phones in murder probe

by · RSVP Live

Detectives probing the disappearance and suspected murder of school boy Kyran Durnin are now assessing their arrests of two key suspects as well as phone records and data gleaned from devices seized.

Kyran, who was six when he was last seen alive in May 2022, was reported missing from his home in Drogheda, Co Louth at the end of August.

Two months later, in October, gardai launched a murder investigation saying they are treating Kyran as missing, presumed dead as detectives believe the boy may have been killed more than two years ago.

This came after a social worker raised the alarm after realising a young boy brought to a meeting with child protection officials was not Kyran.

Last Tuesday, December 10, the first arrest in the investigation came when a female in her 20s was detained on suspicion of murder at a garda station in the northeast of the country

The woman, who is known to Kyran, was arrested as she returned from the UK.

She was released without charge last Wednesday and it is understood she has now returned to the UK.

On Thursday, December 12, detectives made a second arrest of a male in his 30s, who was associated with a woman linked to Kyran. The man is one of several suspects being looked at in the murder case.

He was released without charge on Friday. Now detectives involved in the investigation are making an assessment of the arrests and are examining and checking a lot of data.

Mobile phone records and devices belonging to two key suspects are also being examined to check for communications exchanged between the two during the time Kyran is suspected of going missing, the Irish Mirror reports.

"There is a lot of data to check now and there will be an assessment of last week's arrests to analyse," a source told the paper.

It is expected further arrests may be made and further searches may take place over the coming weeks.

Searches of two properties in Drogheda also took place last week in a bid to discover any evidence which might provide investigators with information as to Kyran's whereabouts or what may have happened to the school boy.

Gardaí said that due to operational reasons, no further details of either search will be released.

An Garda Síochána continues to appeal to anyone with information on the disappearance and murder of Kyran, no matter how insignificant it may seem, to contact them.

Information can be passed to the Garda Investigation Team at Drogheda Garda Station on 041 987 4200, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666111 or any member of An Garda Síochána.
