A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder as part of the investigation into the disappearance of schoolboy Kyran Durnin.

The little boy was reported missing in August of 2022, but no confirmed sighting of the child has been made since May of 2022.

The man is being detained at a Garda station in the east of the country under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

Investigating gardaí have begun searches at two properties in Drogheda, County Louth.

Gardaí said the searches aim to “discover any evidence which might provide us with information as to Kyran’s current whereabouts or what has happened to Kyran”.

This is the second arrest in the investigation after a woman was arrested on suspicion of murder on Tuesday.

She was released without charge.

Gardai said the investigation is ongoing. A spokesperson said: "An Garda Síochána continues to appeal to any person with any information, on the disappearance and murder of Kyran Durnin, no matter how insignificant it may seem, to contact the Garda Investigation Team at Drogheda Garda Station on 041 987 4200, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or speak with any member of An Garda Síochána."

Kyran is missing, presumed dead, and the investigation was upgraded to a murder investigation in October.
