Gardaí suspect eight year old Kyran Durnin may have died months before he was reported missing

Gardaí working on the case of missing eight year old Kyran Durnin have upgraded the case to a murder investigation and they are appealing for anyone with information to come forward

Gardaí investigating the case of eight year old Kyran Durnin are looking into the possibility that he may have died several months before he was reported missing.

This morning, the child's disappearance was upgraded to a murder investigation by gardaí. RTÉ is now reporting that gardaí are following the line of inquiry that Kyran may have died up to two years before he was reported missing.

Kyran was reported missing from his home in Drogheda, Co. Louth, to gardaí on the 30th August 2024.

Gardaí say that despite extensive enquiries carried out by them, they have been unable to locate Kyran, identify any information on his current whereabouts or find any evidence that he is currently alive.

Investigating Gardaí now believe that Kyran is missing presumed dead and a murder investigation has been commenced.

Gardaí said in a statement that the investigation is being led by a Senior Investigation Officer (SIO), based out of an incident room established at Drogheda Garda Station.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who has any information in connection with the disappearance of Kyran to contact Drogheda Garda Station on 041 987 4200, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.

"Any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, will be welcomed by the investigation team. This information will be treated in the strictest confidence," the statement said.

No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
