Young biker fighting for his life after serious crash near Devon border

A young man in his twenties is fighting for his life in hospital following a serious single vehicle collision near the Devon border. Road closures were in place at the scene of the accident near Eype and the man was air lifted to Southampton General Hospital.

Dorset Police received a report at 6.42pm on Saturday 5 October 2024 of a single vehicle collision involving a silver Yamaha motorcycle on the A35 west of Bridport near Eype. Officers are appealing for witnesses or anyone with relevant dashcam footage to come forward as they investigate a serious road traffic collision near Bridport.

Road closures were put in place to allow the emergency services to respond and for an examination of the collision scene to be conducted. The road reopened just after 1am.

Sergeant Dave Cotterill, of the traffic unit, said: “We are conducting a full investigation to establish the circumstances of this collision. I would urge any witnesses to the collision, or the manner of driving of the vehicle involved prior to it, to please contact us.

“I would also ask any motorists with dashcam who were driving in the area to please check their footage to see if they have captured anything that might assist our enquiries.

“Finally, I appreciate this collision has resulted in a major road being closed and I would like to thank members of the public for their patience and understanding during the closure.”
