Death In Paradise fans all spot the same problem with police station in Saint Marie
by Jasmine Allday · DevonLiveFans of the beloved BBC detective series Death In Paradise have raised eyebrows over a curious issue at the heart of Saint Marie's notorious police station.
The bustling centre of activity in the show is the police station, yet eagle-eyed viewers have noticed something amiss that recurs in every episode. This 'issue' has been encountered by each of the detectives on the island, starting with DI Richard Poole (played by Ben Miller), followed by his successors including DI Humphrey Goodman (Kris Marshall), DI Jack Mooney (Ardal O'Hanlon), DI Neville Parker (Ralf Little), and soon-to-be DI Mervin Wilson portrayed by Don Gilet.
Devotees of the programme took to social media to express their bewilderment regarding what transpires each evening after the police station shuts down and the sleuths depart for drinks or dinner at Catherine's bar, or head home for some much-needed downtime.
A particular fan pointed out on social media that every night, the station is securely locked, with the detectives not returning until the following morning. They posed the question: "What about any prisoners who are in the cells? They seem to be left there in the dark with no access to food or drink or the bathroom facilities and unable to contact anyone if there was a kind of emergency."
This observation caused quite the stir among other fans, with several admitting they had never thought of this before. Some even joked that this insight had "ruined" the show for them, reports Wales Online.
The popular TV show, Death In Paradise, is actually filmed in Guadeloupe, not the fictional Saint Marie. The police station is in reality the Presbytery, attached to the church of St Peter and St Paul in Deshaies.
Deshaies also doubles as the town of Honore in the series. This fishing village on Basse-Terre island even offers location tours for fans who have journeyed there to experience their own piece of paradise.
However, viewers may be disappointed to learn that the detective's iconic beach shack, home to lizard Harry, is not a permanent fixture. The shack is constructed anew for each season on Anse de la Perle Beach.
For UK-based fans, a visit to Beyond Paradise's Shipton Abbott might be more feasible. The Cornish town of Looe is the actual location for Shipton Abbott, which is supposed to be situated in Devon.
