Emergency road closure as woman is found on wrong side of bridge railings in Exeter

Officers held on to her to stop her from falling

A road was closed in Exeter last night after concerns were raised for a woman seen on the wrong side of the railings of a bridge. The incident happened on Topsham Road.

Officers were at the scene soon after 11pm, spoke to the woman for some time and held her to prevent her from falling from the bridge. Topsham Road was closed at its junction with Burnthouse Lane for some time between 11pm and midnight while officers assisted the woman.

Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Police were notified at around 11pm last night, Monday 14 October, to reports of a concern of welfare of a woman on the wrong side of the railings on a bridge along Topsham Road, Exeter.

"Officers attended the scene and held onto the woman to prevent her from falling and spoke to the woman for some time.

"The woman was safely brought around to the right side of the railings and was left in the care of healthcare professionals."
