A pedestrian was hospitalised with "serious injuries" after a car crashed into a petrol station forecourt on Friday evening (November 1), police say. The incident took place at the Sainsbury's petrol station on Nicholson Road in Torquay, when a black vehicle collided with the shop building.

Police were called to the scene at around 4.10pm and a police cordon was put in place, as shop workers helped to clear debris from the forecourt. A pedestrian was seriously hurt in the crash.

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson said: "Police were called at around 4.10pm on Friday 1 November following a report of a road traffic collision involving a car and a pedestrian on a petrol station forecourt in Nicholson Road, Torquay.

"The ambulance service was called and the pedestrian was taken to hospital with serious injuries. The driver was also taken to hospital and treated for minor injuries, before being discharged. Enquiries into the collision are ongoing."

The petrol station remained closed for several hours after the incident, with a police cordon still in place at 8pm on Friday. A member of staff at the petrol station store confirmed on Monday morning (Nov 4) that it is now open and running as normal, but declined to comment further.
