Blundell’s students shine with custom show home artwork
by Lewis Clarke · DevonLiveBespoke artwork designed by students from Blundell’s School is on display in a show home in Sampford Peverell.
Working to a brief set by Edenstone Homes and interior designers Blocc, students Izzy Collins and Arby Parker produced the artwork to a tight deadline, alongside completing their GCSE coursework projects, during their free time and in activity sessions in the school day.
The artwork now has pride of place in the show home at The Orchards, where it’s proving to be a talking point amongst homebuyers.
One piece was presented on a wooden board found washed-up at the coast.
Edenstone operations director Chris Edge said: “We’re proud to be able to give Blundell’s students the opportunity to exhibit their talents. The high quality of the artwork reflects the sheer amount of thought students put into their designs – they have obviously worked hard to meet the design brief. Effectively, the show home has become a gallery to showcase their work. Visitors to The Orchards have been surprised to learn that rather than simply buying mass produced art, we’ve enlisted the help of students from Blundell’s School to create bespoke pieces.”
Arby Parker said: “It’s an absolutely amazing opportunity that Edenstone Homes have given us in displaying our art for this project. It was such a fun experience and I truly feel so lucky that they’ve taken interest in my work; it’s been the best introduction into the wider world of interior design and I’m so grateful.”
Izzy Collins added: “The first thing that came to mind, after being asked to work with a surfy/beach theme, were the curling waves in Tamarindo, Costa Rica. Although I usually use grey tones, experimenting with colour was a fun challenge and I thoroughly enjoyed working on this piece.”
Head of art Gil Armstrong Jones said: “Izzy and Arby both produced sea and surf themed works using acrylic paint and ink to capture the vibrancy of the waves. Their work perfectly captured youth culture and appealed to the target group, having been given the thumbs up from peers in school before being submitted to Blocc and Edenstone.
“Both students were professional, hit the requirements on the nose and were willing volunteers and ambassadors for the art school here at Blundell's. The project gave them a real taste of what it's like to work in the art field commercially and to a tight deadline while managing other commitments.”
The Orchards, on Higher Town, offers a range of properties from three-bedroom bungalows, three-bedroom semi-detached houses and a selection of four-bedroom homes in semi-detached and detached designs, with current prices from £399,995 to £764,995. The students’ artwork is on display in the show home, open daily from 10.30am to 5pm.
