by · DevonLive

A cyclist has been taken to hospital after a crash in Exeter. Emergency services were called to the scene in Bridge Road at around 3.30pm today (Friday, December 13) after a car and cyclist were involved in a crash.

The road is currently blocked in both directions, with Devon and Cornwall Police and paramedics both being called to the scene. Long delays have been reported in the area and drivers have been asked to take alternate routes around the site this evening.

An eyewitness said there was "loads of activity, ambulance and police cars everywhere". They continued: "Everyone is doing U-turns."

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson said: "Police were called at around 3.30pm on Friday 13 December to Bridge Road in Exeter following reports of a road traffic collision involving a car and a cyclist."

The force added: "The ambulance service was also called to attend. The road is blocked in both directions. The cyclist has been taken to hospital."

Devon Alert warned on social media: "There has been an RTC on Bridge Rd, Exeter. It is currently closed both ways. Please find an alternative route."
