Fire crews tackle blaze at animal feed plant in Uffculme

Multiple fire crews worked for hours to tackle a blaze at an animal feed plant in Uffculme. Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service confirmed it was called to the scene at around 4:20pm yesterday (November 1) after receiving reports of the fire in a large cooler.

Upon arrival, firefighters were able to locate the blaze and requested further crews from Cullompton, Tiverton, Middlemoor, Taunton, and Wellington. They then got to work to extinguish the flames, using breathing apparatus and water jets.

At 3:23am this morning (November 2), the fire service confirmed the fire had successfully been put out and the incident log was closed. The cause is believed to have been accidental.

A spokesperson for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: "The fire crews from attending stations were mobilised to reports of animal feed on fire in a large (two to three tonne) cooler at around 4:20pm.

"Upon arrival, crews were able to confirm a fire on the third floor of an animal feed plant and quickly requested the attendance of further appliances for additional personnel. Firefighters on scene used four breathing apparatus', one hose reel jet, one 45ml jet, and one safety jet in order to successfully extinguish the fire."
