Fishing boat fire kills one and injures two in Kyunsu Township waters

A fishing boat caught fire on the night of November 22 near Pa Htet Village, Kyunsu Township, Myeik District, Tanintharyi Region, when it was refueling and connecting battery to start the engine, causing one person to die and two others to be injured.
The incident occurred at around 7 pm on November 22 when the 85-foot-long, 24-foot wooden-hulled fishing boat was refueling and setting off. Firefighters led by U San Oo, Chief of the Myeik District Fire Services Department, the maritime police and charity organizations rushed to the scene using eight powered schooners, three speed boats, and three boats with light fire extinguishers and foam sprayers from the Marine Police Unit (Myeik) to extinguish the fire via Seik Nge pier. It was finally extinguished at around 7:55 pm.
A 38-year-old fisherman from Pyapon Township and a 30-year-old fisherman sustained serious burns and were receiving medical treatment at Myeik General Hospital. In addition, another fisherman was found dead near the engine room. Officials are taking legal action regarding the fire.
