Council of the European Union imposes sanctions on three individuals, including BGF’s Colonel Saw Chit Thu

The European Union (EU) has imposed sanctions on three individuals, including Colonel Saw Chit Thu, founder of Chit Linn Myaing Company and a member of the Border Guard Force (BGF), sources report.

On October 29, the Council of the European Union added three individuals and an organization in Myanmar to the list of online fraudsters and approved further sanctions.

Along with Colonel Saw Chit Thu, Lt. Col. Mote Thone and Major Tin Win were also included in the list.

The European Union (EU) added the Chit Linn Myaing Group (CLM) and the founder of that company and the former chairman, Colonel Saw Chit Thu of the Border Guard Force, to the sanctions list.

CLM Company is a group of companies that are seeking financial benefits from the businesses operating in the Myawady town on the Thailand-Myanmar border, including the town of Shwekokko, according to the statement of the Council of the European Union.

There are many human rights violations, including force labour and torture in the territory of Colonel Saw Chit Thu, and the European Union have reported that cross-border crimes, drug and human trafficking, and online fraud, are being committed.

Lieutenant Colonel Mote Thone is the Deputy Secretary-General of the Karen National Army (KNA).

Major Tin Win is a close subordinate of Colonel Saw Chit Thu, and he is profiting from online fraud activities Shwekokko, KK Park Project and the Huanya Project near Myawady, stated the Council of the European Union.

The European Union has issued a statement that online fraud activities threaten peace, security and stability in Myanmar and the region and seriously threatens human rights.

With these sanctions, the European Union has frozen the assets of 106 individuals and 22 organizations from Myanmar, along with economic resources and funds that would have benefited them directly or indirectly. Additionally, those listed are banned from entering the European Union.
