Weapons and ammunition seized at Thanlwin Bridge (Mawlamyine) security checkpoint

On November 1, security forces seized weapons and ammunition from a blue Pajero near the Thanlwin Bridge (Mawlamyine) security gate. Acting on a tip, authorities stopped the vehicle, driven by 35-year-old Thura Zaw (also known as Aung Gyi), who was traveling from Mawlamyine to Yangon.

Upon inspection, the following were confiscated: seven AK-47 rifles, one MA-1 rifle, seven AK magazines, three MA-1 magazines, 880 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition, 24 rounds of .38 caliber, and 70 rounds of 9mm ammunition, according to a source close to the security forces. Thura Zaw is currently being interrogated regarding the incident, and Mawlamyine police station is set to take legal action.

Earlier, on October 23, security personnel seized weapons from a passenger on a "Yarzar Aung" bus at an X-ray checkpoint in Waw Township. Similarly, on October 28, around 2 p.m., authorities discovered weapons and bullets in a “Thangi Aung” vehicle traveling from Kawkareik to Yangon at the Nyang Khashe checkpoint.
