Woman arrested for scamming people in fake banknote scheme on Facebook
· Eleven Media Group Co., LtdA woman from Dakhina Thiri Township, Ma Aye Aye Aung, has been arrested for allegedly scamming individuals attempting to buy counterfeit banknotes through a fraudulent Facebook account. She created a profile under the name "Amara Pan" and posted advertisements on social media groups, claiming she could sell fake currency. The scam involved promising eight counterfeit banknotes for every real one, with payment arrangements that varied depending on the buyer’s location.
Aye Aye Aung, operating under the Viber number 09971007328, directed buyers to transfer money into a Wave Pay account. Once the money was transferred, she would block the buyers' contacts, making off with their funds. Authorities tracked her down and arrested her on November 24 at her home in Zee Phyu Kone Village, seizing a mobile phone used in the scam.
The case was filed under Section 66(c) of the Telecommunications Act, and authorities have vowed to continue investigating and apprehending those involved in producing, selling, and purchasing counterfeit currency via social media.
