Fake medical certificates issued by NUG-linked institution lead to arrests
· Eleven Media Group Co., LtdAuthorities have arrested three individuals involved in notarizing counterfeit medical degrees issued by the NUG-affiliated illegal Mandalay Medical University. These degrees were used by two applicants, Su Pyae Myo Thwet and Thinzar Htet, to apply for admission to Chulalongkorn University in Thailand.
According to reports, the NUG-linked Mandalay Medical University issued temporary fake medical certificates, deceiving students with false promises of overseas university acceptance. However, when the certificates were submitted to Chulalongkorn University, their legitimacy was questioned, prompting the university to verify them with the official Mandalay Medical University in Myanmar. The verification confirmed the certificates were counterfeit, leading to the rejection of the students’ applications.
Further investigation revealed that the fake certificates were notarized by a Notary Public, U Thein Chan (aka Thein Win), who operated an office on 35th Street, Yangon. He was arrested along with Daw Thet Htet Oo (aka Win Htet Myat) and U Myat Min Thu, the owner of M2 Notary Translation Service in Kyauktada Township, who had translated the documents. Evidence, including tools used to create the forgeries, was seized during the arrests.
The certificates were allegedly issued by Dr. Khin Maung Lwin, a former rector of Mandalay Medical University and now a member of the illegal NUG-affiliated university council. The two students, previously expelled from Mandalay Medical University for disciplinary violations, used these fake certificates to apply for admission abroad.
The Ministry of Education announced that the two students have been blacklisted and legal action will be taken against all parties involved. Authorities emphasized their commitment to prosecuting those connected to the NUG-affiliated illegal institution and its counterfeit operations.
