Authorities seize 1.4 million amphetamine tablets worth 2.2 billion kyats in Kyaukphyu Township

More than 1.4 million amphetamine tablets worth more than 2.2 billion kyats transported by sea from Shan State to Rakhine State were seized in Kyaukphyu Township on the Rakhine coast, according to the statement of the Drug Enforcement Division.

According to the statement, a joint team consisting of troops from the Tatmadaw (Navy) detained Mya Lwin, Min Min Soe, Thant Zin Naing and Naing Lin Tun on a coastal powered schooner along with the amphetamine tablets on the Rakhine coast in Kyaukphyu Township, Rakhine State at around 4 am on September 23.

According to further investigation, the authorities arrested Zaw Min Oo (b) Ko Zaw and Pyae Phyo Maung, who asked them to transport the seized methamphetamines from Yangon to Pauktaw Township, at Seikkyi Kha Naung Toe jetty at around 10 am on September 24. It is reported that they transported the seized psychotropic pills from Shan State to Yangon Region and then transported them by sea to Rakhine State.

According to the Drug Enforcement Division, legal action has been taken against those caught in the incident and the perpetrators of crimes are being identified.
