Floods in Myanmar affect Over 630,000 people, hundreds dead or missing: UNOCHA

More than 630,000 people are affected by the flood, hundreds of people are dead and many are missing, according to UNOCHA Myanmar.

Due to the subsequent heavy rains of Typhoon Yagi, there have been floods and damages in many parts of Myanmar. In addition, Spokesman for the United Nations Secretary-General Stéphane Dujarric said that there are floods and damage in many regions due to the typhoon, VOA reported.

The Spokesman of the United Nations Secretary-General continued to say that assistance is being provided for food, water, sanitation and other urgent needs for flood victims, and there are funding requirements, and aid operations are being delayed.

The Spokesman added that US$994 million is needed for humanitarian programs, and only US$252 million, which is 25 percent of that amount, has been received.

According to the State Administration Council's statement, there were 226 people died, 77 people missing, and more than 120,000 animals died and more than 600,000 hectares of land has been submerged, according to the lists collected until 4:00 pm on September 16.

In the 56 townships affected by the flood, 2,116 homes were damaged and 158,373 homes were submerged. The respective regional and state governments opened a total of 438 flood relief camps for the population of 163,710 from 42,858 households and military and police personnel, fire brigade members, the Red Cross members and charitable organizations are providing relief work in a timely manner, according to the announcement.
