Tragedy strikes: Vehicles kill and injury people collecting donations on Tazaungmone full moon day

Two women were killed and others were injured in Yangon traffic incidents while collecting things donated and discarded by others on Tazaungmone full moon night, according to some charity associations in Yangon.

On November 15, a woman was hit by a car and killed while picking up money on Pearl Road, Shwepyitha Industrial Zone at around 9 pm, according to the Ka Naung free funeral association.

A 40-year-old woman, Daw Aye Thander, was hit by a taxi while picking up money dropped from a vehicle on Pearl Road, Shwepyitha Industrial Zone 4 and she was sent to Insein hospital by the association but later she died at the hospital.

“She picked up the money that was thrown from the car. She was hit by a taxi driving behind. There were also children but they were not hit,” said a resident of Shwepyitha Township.

Similarly, a man, who was picking up money on Baho Road, Sanchaung Township, slipped and injured in his head and had to be taken to the emergency department of Yangon General Hospital, according to the Future Light Charity Association.

It is said that the man slipped and suffered a six-inch fracture on the back of his head and was bleeding profusely, so he was taken to the hospital. Also, in Mayangone Township, a woman was hit by a vehicle and died while picking up money dropped from a vehicle, according to some residents of the township.

According to the Insein Township Red Cross Association, a child who was picking up money was hit by a motorcycle and was injured and was taken to Insein Hospital at around 1 pm on November 15.

Last year, a child was killed in a collision with a vehicle while picking up money thrown from a vehicle on Tazaungmone full moon night.
